General Nursing and Midwifery (GNM) is a three year long course which focuses on taking care of patients and helps students develop skills and knowledge in the field of nursing. The main aim of the course is to prepare graduates to work as registered nurses in a hospital or other healthcare organization.

The syllabus for the course is designed in such a way that it covers all the aspects related to nursing. The students are taught about human anatomy, physiology, medical-surgical nursing, mental health, obstetric, paediatrics, obstetrics, gynaecology and community health.

Apart from this, they are also given training in First Aid, CPR and basic life support. In addition to classroom learning, GNM students are also required to complete clinical rotations in various settings, such as hospitals, clinics, and long-term care facilities. After successful completion of the course, professionals become eligible to work as entitles them to work as a nurse in any hospital or clinic.

ELIGIBILITY FOR ADMISSION

Candidates for admission to the course shall have passed the Higher Secondary examination or courses recognized equivalent there to by the West Bengal Nursing Council with 40% marks together with usual relaxation allowed by Government of West Bengal for Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, Other Backward Classes (A & B) and PwD candidates.

Students should have completed 17 years of age as on 31 December of the admission year.

MODE OF SELECTION TO THE COURSE

The selection of students for the course shall be made strictly based on merit as decided by the competent authority approved by the Government of West Bengal and West Bengal Nursing Council and as per guidelines of the respective council from time to time.

As stipulated by the Government of West Bengal and/or WBNC from time to time.

EXAMINATIONS

As per WBNC Academic Regulations and course syllabus prescribed from time to time.
